Welcome
Things
Folks Are Saying About Wilderness Volunteers
WV has always been my personal favorite group
to work with....WV has quite a
tradition and excellent reputation to continue in Chaco. I personally
have
worked with WV groups every year since 1998. This will be the
9th year of
our partnership (NPS & WV) and I hope it will continue to
prosper.
Once again thank you very much for your dedication and stewardship,
and I
look forward to greeting you at the end of this month. Best wishes, Brad Shattuck

I recently went on the North Rim Trails trip
in the North Kaibab Wilderness and was completely pleased with
the trip. Special praise goes to the trip leaders.
They were very competent, pleasant and worked well together.
As a physician, I was very pleased with how well they monitored
the physical status of the volunteers. The work was challenging,
the scenery beautiful, and the people in the group were great to
work and relax with. The real value of Wilderness Volunteers, however,
is in bringing people into close contact with the wonders of the
natural world. This personal contact is invaluable in developing
a real concern for the environment. How amazing that in a
world where a company expects to charge $2000 for an automotive
satellite dish, a group of people can come together and enjoy nothing
more technical than mountain scenery and conversation around a
campfire! Keep up the good work.J.F., North

Hi, Debbie!
I just wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed our 3rd annual
Russian Olive eradication trip to the
Escalante River! We really enjoyed it again and being able to work
with you, Misha, and Bill....along with
Steve and Deb again and the others. We love the area and it is
neat to do the work and see a "difference".
Mark was great, too, and will be a great leader...he is so mellow
and fun!
Thanks for making it a great annual backpack for us! The meals
were perfect, by the way! The snack bags,
too! Thanks again! M.N. & S.W., Glen Canyon National
Recreation Area
As our week of work ended,
we lingered longer over dinner. While some folks were eager to
get back to the luxuries of the civilized world, like hot showers
and cold beer, some were reluctant to leave behind the astounding
beauty and simplicity of nature at her best. We shared our last
evening in camp with a pair of rugged hikers who had admired our
work on the trail. The highest compliment paid to a Wilderness
Volunteer might be, "Hey, I noticed the trail was in good
shape." from a fellow hiker. A week's worth of blood, sweat,
and tears never sounded so good! M.P.,

THANK YOU all for being so
INCREDIBLY kind, understanding and supportive of me..... I cannot
tell you how much I appreciate each and every one of you. I
feel very lucky to have spent the week hiking, working, sharing
meals and getting to know all of you. This trip was the most
physically challenging thing I have ever done, hands down. My
bruises, cuts, and blisters have healed, but the memories I will
carry with me forever. J.R., Glen Canyon National Recreation Area
"We would like to take this
time to thank you and your group for the assistance in "giving
something back", and helping us restore the Escalante River
corridor to a more pristine condition." Kitty L. Roberts,
Superintendent, Glen Canyon National Recreation Area
I wanted to take this opportunity
to express my appreciation for the excellent job you and your fellow
Wilderness Volunteers did during your August work project at San
Juan Island National Historical Park. We were delighted with the
amount of work your group accomplished Peter Dederich,
Superintendent, San Juan Island National Historical Park
I just would like you to know that
the trip to the Sierras in August with Misha and Kristen was outstanding.
It has been one of my favorite WV trips so far, well organized,
great food and a fun group to be with.
I am looking forward to next year's trip with my buddy (PB). Best
regards and thank you for all the hard work you are doing to keep
this organization in great shape. U. B., John Muir Wilderness
